8 Milky Way candy bars (2.15 oz. each)
1 c. butter or margarine
2 c. sugar
4 large eggs, separated
1-1/4 c.buttermilk
1/2 tsp.baking soda
2-1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp.salt
1 c. pecans, chopped
1 (6-oz.) pkg. semisweet morsels
Preheat oven to 325-degrees. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan. In a
large heavy dutch oven, melt candy bars and butter, stirring frequently.
Remove from stove and stir in sugar. In a small bowl, combine egg
yolks, buttermilk and baking soda until blended. In another bowl,
combine flour and salt. Add to candy mixture alternately with
buttermilk mixture beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Stir in
chopped pecans. In a clean mixing bowl, beat egg whites until stiff but
not dry. Fold into batter. Pour into prepared pan and bake for 1 hour
and 15 minutes, or until cake pulls away from sides of pan. Cool on
wire rack for 15 minutes. Invert and cool completely. In a double
boiler, melt chocolate morsels over simmering water. Spread on sides
and top of cooled cake. Makes 16 servings. Tip: You may use
your microwave to melt the candy bars and butter. Also for the
chocolate morsels for the frosting.
