Gumdrop Cookies

1 1/2 cups gumdrops
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 3/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 cups quick-cooking oats

Preheat the oven to 350 F. Line the baking sheets with parchment paper. Using scissors, cut the gumdrops into small pieces. Set aside. In a large bowl, beat the butter and both of the sugars at medium speed using an electric mixer. Beat until creamy. Add the eggs, one at a time. Beat well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Gradually add to the butter mixture. Beat until combined. Stir in the oats and gumdrops. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls. Place the balls, 2 inches apart, onto the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cool on the pans for 2 minutes. Remove from the pans and cool completely on wire racks. Store in airtight containers. Makes 4 1/2 dozen
