Cherry Bars Empty Cherry Bars

Cherry Bars

1 cup butter/margarine
1 3/4 cups sugar
4 eggs
3 cups flour, sifted
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt

Cream together butter and sugar thoroughly. Add eggs one at a time. Add vanilla and mix well.

Sift dry ingredients together and add gradually. Reserve about 1 cup of batter. Spread remaining batter into a greased 11 X 17 inch pan. Spread 1 can cherry pie filling over batter to within 1/2 inch from edges. Drop reserved batter by spoonfulls over the pie filling.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. When cool, sprinkle with powdered sugar or ice.

May be baked in 2 - 9 X 9 inch pans. May use other flavor fruit fillings.
