GM MDI 2 "Clone" Question

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some insights from those experienced with these devices. I understand that with MDI 1 clones, it was often a gamble as to whether you were getting a true MDI clone or a VXDIAG for MDI.

I’ve also learned that MDI 2 clones are essentially MDI 1 interfaces housed in a chassis designed to resemble the MDI 2. My question is: are all the known MDI 2 clones based solely on the MDI 1 design, or do VXDIAG-derived versions of the MDI 2 clones exist as well?

In other words, if I order a GM MDI 2 clone, can I be confident that I'm getting an MDI 1 clone without the risk of it being a VXDIAG unit?
