Christmas Cutouts
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter
3 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
3 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
Sugar or decorating icing, if desired
In a large bowl, beat in 1 cup sugar, the butter, milk, vanilla and the egg using an electric mixer on medium speed. Beat until well blended. On low speed, beat in the flour, baking powder, and salt until well mixed. Cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 1 hour for easier handling. Heat the oven to 400 F. On a lightly floured surface, roll out 1/3 of the dough at a time to 1/8 inch thickness. Keep the remaining dough refrigerated. . Cut with a floured 2-inch cookie cutter. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. If, desired, sprinkle with the sugar. Bake for 5 to 9 minutes or until the edges are light golden brown. Immediately remove from the cookie sheets to cooling racks. Decorate as desired. Makes 6 dozen cookies
