The Dump Cobbler
Serves 12
Dump into your oven... 2 cans slices peaches with the syrup (or use pineapple), 1 package of white or yellow cake mix, 1/3 stick butter and some ground cinnamon.
Start by "dumping" (now you know where the name came from) your fruit into the oven. Now spread the cake mix evenly over the fruit. Then sprinkle the cinnamon, along with thin slices of butter, on top.
Place 15 hot charcoal briquettes on the bottom of your oven and 10 on the top. (This mean on top of your inverted lid). Bake for about 45 minutes
To check for doneness: use a clean twig (debarked) from the poplar tree, poke it into the dump, if comes out clean (batter free), the dump is done You can subtitute a toothpick for a poplar twig.
Because cobblers are fruit and not meat, I found some interesting recipes this morning, from the 1800's.
